Festival Marketing Calendar India 2026-27 + Ideas
In India, the marketing year runs on festivals. Diwali, Navratri, the wedding season, Raksha Bandhan, the regional new years and the big marketplace sales all move demand. They move ad costs too, and what customers expect to hear from you.
Small businesses rarely miss a festival outright. The usual mistake is starting too late:
- the Diwali creative gets made the week before Diwali;
- the WhatsApp broadcast goes out when every other brand is also broadcasting;
- the website page goes live after the searches have peaked.
So this calendar gives you dates and lead times. Pick the date, count back, start there.
Important: many dates are approximate
Many Hindu, Muslim and Sikh festivals follow lunar or lunisolar calendars. Their dates vary by region, by panchang and, for Eid, by moon sighting. Marketplace sale dates are set by the companies each year.
How to read the tables:
- (≈) means approximate: confirm with a current panchang, your local community, or the official announcement before you lock in a campaign.
- Dates without (≈) are fixed or widely agreed calendar dates.
- Lead time is when we suggest starting the campaign (content, ads, WhatsApp) before the date.

Working backwards: a 3-week festival plan
Using Diwali as the example, the lead times play out like this:
T-21 days: plan
- Decide the offer: what, for whom, until when.
- Book the shoot or design.
- Draft your WhatsApp templates and submit them for approval early (Meta reviews templates, usually within 24 hours).
T-14 days: publish evergreen content
- Update or create the festival page or blog post on your website. For example "Diwali gift hampers in Ahmedabad", or "Get your AC serviced before guests arrive".
- Search needs time to pick it up, so refresh pages before the season. See content refresh.
- Start organic Reels. See the Reels playbook.
T-10 days: start ads
- Launch a capped, time-bound Meta campaign. Lifetime budget with an end date.
- Expect costs to rise near big festivals and sale events, when many advertisers compete for the same audiences. See budget guardrails.
T-7 to T-3 days: WhatsApp broadcast
- Send to opted-in, segmented customers only. Avoid the festival morning itself, when inboxes are flooded with greetings.
- Marketing messages cost about ₹0.86 each before GST in India. See WhatsApp pricing.
Festival day: post a greeting and skip the hard sell. Reply quickly to enquiries.
T+3 days: a thank-you, last-day reminder, or post-festival service offer, and a quick review of what worked.
Campaign angles by business type
Illustrative ideas, not results.
- HVAC / home services (Ahmedabad):
- "Service your AC before Diwali guests arrive".
- In March-April, a pre-summer AMC campaign.
- Avoid broadcasting on the festival day itself.
- Dental / skin clinic:
- "Smile-ready for the wedding season" consultation slots.
- Holi skin-care tips (education, not treatment claims).
- D2C brands:
- Gift sets with clear order-by dates for Rakhi and Diwali, matched to your courier's real delivery times.
- Plan stock around marketplace sale events.
- Restaurants / sweet shops: pre-order windows for Diwali boxes; Navratri fasting menus.
- Jewelers: Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya bookings, wedding-season appointments.
- Coaching / education: New Year and back-to-school admission drives.
Sensitivity checklist
- [ ] Don't use religious imagery on discount banners in a way your community may find disrespectful.
- [ ] Use the correct greeting for each festival and region, and check the spelling in Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil and other languages.
- [ ] For moon-dependent dates (Eid), keep creative flexible by a day.
- [ ] Don't stack offers so close together that customers learn to wait for the next discount.
- [ ] Check that every promotional WhatsApp message goes only to opted-in contacts.
FAQ
When is Diwali in 2026?
Lakshmi Puja is generally listed for Sunday 8 November 2026, with Dhanteras on about 6 November and Bhai Dooj on about 11 November. Confirm with a current panchang, since dates can vary by region.
How early should I start festival marketing?
For major festivals such as Diwali and Navratri, start planning about 3 weeks ahead. Update web content about 2 weeks ahead, start ads about 10 days ahead, and send WhatsApp broadcasts 3-7 days before.
Why are some festival dates marked approximate?
Many Indian festivals follow lunar or lunisolar calendars, and Eid depends on moon sighting. Dates can shift by a day or vary by region. Marketplace sale dates are set by the companies each year.
Should I send WhatsApp greetings on the festival day?
A short greeting to engaged customers is fine. Avoid sending promotional broadcasts on the day itself, when inboxes are crowded. Send offers a few days earlier, to opted-in contacts only.
