Makar Sankranti posts for your business: Uttarayan, Lohri and Pongal 2027
One week in January, four names, very different posts.
Makar Sankranti falls on Thursday 14 January 2027. Gujarat celebrates it as Uttarayan with kites on the 14th and 15th, Punjab lights Lohri bonfires the night before, and Tamil Nadu celebrates Pongal. What to post depends on where your customers are. This page covers the dates, post ideas, sizes and wishes.
Dates and when to post
| Festival | Where | Date | Post your offer by | Post your wish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lohri | Punjab, Haryana, Delhi | Wednesday 13 January | Sunday 10 January | Tuesday evening |
| Makar Sankranti | Most of India | Thursday 14 January | Monday 11 January | Wednesday evening |
| Uttarayan and Vasi Uttarayan | Gujarat | Thursday 14 and Friday 15 January | Monday 11 January | Wednesday evening |
| Pongal (Bhogi the day before) | Tamil Nadu | Friday 15 January | Tuesday 12 January | Thursday evening |
Many panchangs place the Sankranti punya kaal on the morning of 15 January 2027, so some families celebrate a day later. Check your local calendar before you set an offer's last date.
Ideas by business
- Kite and string sellers. Post your kite and string prices about a week ahead, when buyers stock up. Sell and show cotton string only: glass-coated nylon "Chinese manja" is banned (National Green Tribunal, 2017) because it injures people and birds.
- Sweet shops. Til-gul, chikki and laddoo boxes with prices and an order-by date.
- Restaurants in Gujarat. Undhiyu and jalebi pre-orders for the 14th, with the pickup times.
- Clothing shops. Kite-festival wear in Gujarat, and the January wedding season everywhere.
- Clinics. A sober wish and your holiday hours. In Gujarat, a note on kite-string safety for two-wheeler riders is useful and fits the rules on medical advertising.
Sizes
- WhatsApp Status and Instagram Stories: 9:16, 1080 × 1920 px. Keep text out of the top 14% and the bottom 20%.
- Instagram and Facebook feed: 4:5, 1080 × 1350 px, or square 1080 × 1080 px.

Let Creative Bee make your Sankranti posts
Creative Bee makes your wish and your offer with your logo, number and offer, in English, Hindi or Gujarati, in 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5, and sends them on WhatsApp 3 days before the festival for you to approve and forward. It uses festival symbols such as kites and the harvest sun. Tamil isn't one of its languages yet, so for Pongal it makes English designs. These samples were made for a demo shop's Diwali; Sankranti designs use the same layouts.

Questions about Sankranti posts
Is Makar Sankranti on 14 or 15 January in 2027?
The festival is on Thursday 14 January 2027, and many panchangs put the punya kaal on the morning of 15 January. In Gujarat, Uttarayan runs over both days.
When should I post a Sankranti offer?
About 3 days before: by Monday 11 January for Sankranti and Uttarayan, and a week ahead if you sell kites or string.
Can I show kites with glass-coated string?
Show cotton string only. Glass-coated nylon string, often called Chinese manja, is banned, and a post that shows it can draw complaints.
Does Creative Bee make Pongal posts in Tamil?
Not yet. Creative Bee works in English, Hindi and Gujarati, so Pongal posts are in English.
